Wild Zero is Japanese trash cinema at it’s best. Featuring real rockers Guitar Wolf the movie explodes with wild enthusiasm; heads pop, sexy arms dealers provide big guns to blow shit up with, big hair is combed, there’s even a gratuitous shower scene that seems to provide nothing but an excuse to 1) provide nudity, and 2) prove that even in Japan they have seen Psycho.

More after the jump

This is rock and roll life
The plot appears to come directly from Plan 9 From Outer Space. An alien invasion has somehow brought the dead back to life, and hungry for human blood they chase our hero around town. But who cares? You’re not watching Wild Zero for it’s plot points. There are zombies and enough wacky hi jinx for three films!

silly zombies

Lor’s thoughts:
Zero dabbles in a little bit of everything—zombies, UFOs, transsexuals, laser vision, flaming people and objects, true love, pompadours and Rock n’ Roll! Despite the wide range of scene-stealing silliness, the movie manages to stay on course, even though it takes some pretty wild turns to cram in some over-the-top moments and some American horror movie tributes.

FLAME ROCK

The costumes and characters in this movie are hysterical. The Captain and his little side-lace-up short shorts (sans underwear) with his crisp skin tight polo shirts were way more disturbing than any of the gory decapitation or limb-exploding scenes. The band, Guitar Wolf was dressed in full 50’s Rock n’ Roll leather complete with greased up, constantly combed pompadours.

It's what all the cool kids are wearing

Wild Zero was a very enjoyable, light-hearted zombie film with enough action and silliness to keep you entertained to the end.

Wild Zero Haiku

kill hungry zombies
learn courage and rock n roll
comb that pompadour

True Love!

The Synapse DVD is of adequate quality and well worth the low price point. This is a movie that belongs in every one’s collection. I had the difficult task of deciding if it should be placed on the “FUCK AWESOME” shelf or simply included with the other zombie films. Such are the sorts of things that keep me up late. Wild Zero is a Zombie Order top recommended film. Watch it today.
